Slideshows for Grain Festival 2023

Some slideshows that were not seen in Grain. And others that were.

I am preparing an explanatory video with some technical aspects.

Come back in a few days and you will find it.

Fede & Emily

During the vows, the groom referred to a phrase someone had once said.

I didn’t recognise it so I googled it and it turned out to be from this film.

Sandra & Hori

One of the most elaborate slideshows I’ve ever done. The rhythm of the song conditions everything.

I combined two versions of the same song. At the end of the song I pasted an acoustic version that gives it that more isolated and intimate touch.

I had to add silences between the couple’s phrases because they spoke very fast. There were words or phrases that needed a pause to be assimilated better.

The One with the Friends scene»

This is what we talked about during the presentation at Grain.
The difficulty I most often encounter at weddings is to find a conflict in the story, because during the vows or speeches you don’t usually find such issues.

By sorting out what the couple said I found a narrative structure. Much more interesting. It’s the typical story of boy meets girl falls in love has a difficulty and in the end they end up together. But that’s not how it was presented in the original speech. That’s why I modified the order to find a much more interesting structure. The Friends scene was mentioned by her, so it was a gift I should have taken advantage of.

Mad Men

We were also watching it during the presentation. In this case during the interview with the couple, the groom gave me many references that his favourite series of his favourite character was Don Draper from the TV series «Mad Men».

On the other hand, there was a feeling of nostalgia in the couple, as their father had passed away a few months before.

I find it interesting to introduce and use as a thread a very specific scene from the TV series Mad Men, in which nostalgia is discussed.

My first slideshow

This was the first time I made a slideshow, using voices and a narrative thread.

It was also the first time I did an international wedding. I was equal parts excited, overwhelmed and scared. I wanted to live up to it. And I felt I had to go the extra mile to thank this couple, who hired a photographer from a small town in northern Spain and brought him to their wedding in Brooklyn.

I recorded the vows of the readings and speeches throughout the day. During the speeches of the friends, I noticed that there was a common element that united the couple: the city of New York, so I decided to treat the city as a special guest at the wedding and decided to start the slide from this point of view.

Plato's myth

All for love

This was the first time I made a slideshow, using voices and a narrative thread.

Iceland

This Canadian couple decided to go home to Iceland. Just the two of them. It was a very short ceremony in which they decided not to exchange vows because they wanted to do it in their intimacy.

The groom was a very reflective person, very spiritual, very slow, and he made many very interesting reflections on the meaning of doing what they were doing in Iceland, taking life in a conscious way.

Although I didn’t have that audio content, I was able to use an audio of a philosopher called Allan Watts as the thread of his story.

Technically I had to do a Google search until I found this audio fragment. When I found it, I also found another one that fit very well, so that I could make a small mix using these audios to give a global sense to the whole narration.

Elopement

This German couple from Hamburg travelled in a van to the north of Spain, where they decided to read each other’s vows and exchange vows with each other.

On this occasion, I also took the opportunity to record some short video shots that could complement the narration.

Life and death

It is really difficult to repeat. Not because of the complexity of the editing, but because of the powerful text the bride wrote. We have the advantage that both of them are well-known journalists in Germany.

The intensity of the text is due to the strong feeling of grief, which the bride had for the absence of her parents. This feeling of grief was palpable in the atmosphere that stood out and contrasted with the festive atmosphere in which we were.

At weddings there are not only feelings of joy, love and emotion. There are also feelings of absence and grief that are at the surface and to ignore them does not do justice to the history of that couple, because it is in the bad moments that couples create bonds of union between them. Therefore, making them visible in their story is a must.

Mum is here with us

Another of the slideshows we saw at the presentation. The story is very similar to the previous one and talks about grief and absence.

The wedding was a big party and absolutely everyone gave it their all, not a single song, dance, hug or kiss was left unsaid and everything was externalised with joy.

But the absence of the bride’s mother was very noticeable and without the audio and this audio-visual piece there would be no record of that about their wedding.

Slideshows & Storytelling
The online course

I am preparing a long course about this.
I want you to be able to make this kind of audiovisual pieces for your clients.
I want you to make them cry and they can’t stop praising your work for how you have presented it to them.
It will be available during the first quarter of 2024.
Do you want to be notified when it’s ready?
