Manuela & Tommy’s wedding at Marqués de Riscal: wind, wine and happiness without brakes.
If La Rioja had to be reduced to a single place, this would be it.
Vineyards as far as the eye can see. Bottles stacked as witnesses of celebrations that never end. A winery with more history than any speech.
And in the middle of it all, Gehry’s impossible curves floating over the landscape, as if someone had wanted to see how far the horizon could be stretched without breaking.
Getting married at Marqués de Riscal is not getting married just anywhere. It is getting married in a place that makes you small and giant at the same time.
And Manuela knew it.
He could have married in London, he could have looked for a picture postcard location anywhere in the world.
But no.
It had to be here.
London, La Rioja and a love that knows no distances
Manuela is from here. Tommy, from there.
They met in the city where no one stops, but decided to get married in the land where everything happens with the calm of a good wine.
Here, where after-dinner conversations last forever, toasts are made slowly and time is measured in vintages instead of clocks.
What was not in the plans was the wind.
The wind that tried to blow away the veil (but not the smile)
Five seconds.
That’s how long Manuela’s veil lasted before it flew away.
He took it off without batting an eye, laughed as if it was written in the script from the beginning, and kept walking as if the wind was just another guest.
And it was.
She lifted the skirts of the guests, tousled the witnesses, waved the flowers. It made the ceremony more alive, more real, more unforgettable.
Because perfect weddings don’t exist.
But the ones that are always remembered, yes.
Rossi Landazuri: the person with whom we would do all the weddings in the world.
There are wedding planners who organize weddings.
And then there is Rossi Landazuri, who turns them into something that seems to be happening on its own, as if no one had to plan anything.
Every time we work with her, we know it’s going to work out before it starts.
Because a wedding is not about the flowers arriving on time or the chairs being lined up. It is for the bride and groom to think of nothing but living that day.
And Rossi is clear about that.
A banquet that tasted like La Rioja
Wine is not an accompaniment here.
It is the basis of everything.
Each glass served was another chapter in the history of this place.
Each dish is a tribute to Riojan cuisine, that which does not need bombastic names because it is self-explanatory, bite by bite.
The Marqués de Riscal team knows this. They know that getting married here is not just about saying “I do”, but about sitting at the table and understanding why in this land enjoyment is almost a religion.
And then came the party.
Because after a day like that, there was no other option.
What’s left when everything shuts down
I could talk about the wind, how it lifted napkins, blew kisses and took as a souvenir a veil that never appeared.
I could talk about the vineyards, the sun reflecting off Gehry’s curves as if I were toasting as well.
I could talk about the infinite toast, the long hugs, the feeling that this wedding could not fit in a single day.
But what really remains is something else.
It is the certainty that when happiness is lived without brakes, it stays forever in the places where it happened.
When the last song played and the last toast was made in a low voice, the Marqués de Riscal fell silent again.
But that night, he kept one more memory.
